View the full available range from Byrne Farm here. Jeff Byrne has been one busy fellow since setting out on his own in 2019. He’s established his own Glenidle vineyard—first crop 2023—and converted the old apple shed into a functioning winery, all the while cementing his label as one of New South Wales’s most exciting new prospects. It’s been a bit crazy, he admits, “I was building the winery right up until the day picking started this year”. Yet with the foundations set, the future of Byrne Farm could hardly look brighter. Conditions in the Orange highlands have been relatively moderate for the last three years, a reciprocal cycle after the warmer 18, 19 and 20 seasons. These cooler vintages, with wetter than average conditions, have brought a good rebounding of crop levels after the devastation wrought by 2020. And while the fresher conditions bring their own challenges, they also play right into the hands of a grower who craves freshness, elegance and purity of fruit in his wines. Byrne’s 2022 wines are very impressive and right up there with his brilliant 2021s. In fact, Jeff likens the years to “two peas in a pod”. And while the wines are amongst the best value we can offer, focusing solely on the price would be doing the wines a disservice. You can expect even more brightness, a touch more minerality and a smidge more crunch this year. We also have small quantities of Jeff’s deliciously gluggable Shiraz Pinot from 2021 available.
