Produced in Bordeaux by the Paetzold family, few pieces of wine tech have created more ripples than these single piece glass globes. Wineglobe was created in 2015 and in 2020 received the famous Vinitech Innovation Trophy award. Today, these cutting-edge vessels are found in a legion of top estates throughout Europe and the world.
Blown in one piece from borosilicate (the strongest and most resistant glass), Wineglobes have been shown to produce unique wines that are distinct from those fermented and aged in wood, concrete or steel vessels. In short, Wineglobes produce wines of remarkable purity and perfume. The natural features of the fruit come to the fore in a distinctive and idiosyncratic way.
Wines made with these vessels seem averse to advert reduction or “tank character” through ageing, even without any oxygen exchange. The reasons for this phenomenon are still being studied—a fascinating area of research. According to the makers, winemakers have witnessed an average decrease in necessary SO2 additions of 25 to 50%.
