Watching Virginie Moreau build on what she's created since Stéphane's sudden passing in 2016 has been one of the great stories in Chablis, and with daughter Nell now alongside her, the estate keeps getting better. The 2024 vintage has landed, and we're excited to share the village Chablis and Petit Chablis.

 

Less about the plush generosity of the '22s and more about pure energy and drive. The Chablis is racy and long, all lemon peel and spring flowers, with a saline, precise finish. The Petit Chablis is even more incisive, a taut, crystalline expression of Chablis.

 

Vintage variation is what makes Burgundy, Burgundy, and 2024 gives us a tighter, more electric take on Moreau-Naudet that is still full of character and built for the table.

Diam. Moreau’s Petit Chablis comes from a single 2.5-hectare site, La Grosse Cour, between Courgis and Beine, just outside Chablis on the route to Auxerre. It has a southwest orientation and lies on Kimmeridgian soils (as opposed to the higher Portlandian soils on which most Petit is grown). Half of the plot is home to 25- to 30-year-old vines, while the other half is somewhat older at 45 to 50 years. The wine fermented spontaneously in large vats of 32 to 100 hectolitres. This wine possesses a surprising, though welcome, gravitas and charisma for a Petit Chablis. It is always a pleasure to taste what mature vines and quality, organic-focused farming can create at this level.

Diam. Moreau’s village Chablis comes chiefly from 20- to 30-year-old vineyards in Préhy and Courgis, both south of Chablis. Then, there are parcels in Chablis and Chichée (under the Premier Cru vines of Vaugiraut/Vosgros). All up, the Domaine works with 30 parcels scattered across the appellation, representing a variety of soil structures and exposures. All the fruit from the younger vines is sold off in bulk, lifting the general standard.

The fruit was pressed gently over four hours and fermented with natural yeasts (still a rarity in Chablis). It was raised mainly in the tank, and the maturation was unhurried. The wine then spent 20 months on lees, considerably longer than most Chablis of this level. These traditional methods—along with hand-harvesting, the quality of the terroir, the low yields and the ripeness—help explain the mouthcoating texture, salty depths and overall quality.

Domaine Moreau-Naudet Chablis 2024 (1500ml)

Diam. Moreau-Naudet's village Chablis comes chiefly from 20- to 30-year-old vineyards in Préhy and Courgis, both south of Chablis, with additional parcels in Chablis and Chichée under the Premier Cru vines of Vaugiraut/Vosgros; the largest single parcel, at 3.5 hectares, lies across Préhy and Courgis. In all, the domaine works with 30 parcels scattered across the appellation, spanning a variety of soil structures and exposures — fruit from the youngest vines is sold off in bulk, lifting the overall standard. The grapes are pressed gently over four hours and fermented with natural yeasts, still a rarity in Chablis, then raised mainly in tank through an unhurried maturation, spending 20 months on lees, considerably longer than most Chablis of this level. Hand-harvesting, the quality of the terroir, low yields and ripeness all contribute to the wine's characteristic mouth-coating texture and saline depths.
