If you think that brilliant Burgundy and bargain prices are a thing of the past, think again! Domaine Goisot is simply one of the great growers of Burgundy; they just happen to be based in the Yonne/Auxerre area, well and truly off the beaten track. These are not only wines to challenge the very best of neighbouring Chablis, but they also sit comfortably alongside the best of the Côte de Beaune. This is not a new story, of course. The Goisot family trace their origins in the Yonne (and specifically the village of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux) back to the 14th century. Here we are close to the Chablis border in the region known as Côtes d’Auxerre. Before phylloxera, wines from Auxerre were considered some of the finest in Burgundy, and sold at very high prices. The Goisot family’s wines show us why. Organic and biodynamic farming, certified by Ecocert and Demeter, sits at the heart of their approach. The grapes are rigorously sorted, then vinified in barrel or tank, depending on terroir and vine age. The results are simply some of Burgundy’s greatest values: pure, fleshy wines of incredibly chalky minerality. They enjoy a huge reputation in France — the late Anne-Claude Leflaive once described Goisot as “one of the superstars of French winemaking”, while La Revue du Vin de France rates only five Chablis Domaines on the same level or higher — and they deserve to be far better known here. Those who know, know, of course. Part of the issue has been the small volumes shipped, so on Guilhem Goisot’s recent visit to Australia, over a few bottles of wine and some lovely food, we were able to negotiate more volume of these incredible values. We’re thrilled to be able to offer these latest releases below. It’s a super set of wines and they show that Goisot is, like so many top Burgundian estates, continuing to get better and better.
