The Nacional parcel is a small area at the heart of the Quinta do Noval vineyard planted with ungrafted vines and untouched by phylloxera. The word “Nacional” refers to the fact that the vines are Portuguese vines growing in Portuguese soil with no foreign root stock.

The 2024 growing season was marked by a sequence of near perfect weather conditions. The 2024 is immensely deep in colour, almost opaque, with a nose of great complexity, showing ripe wild berries, black cherry and plum, together with notes of dark chocolate, liquorice and fine spice. Dense, concentrated and remarkably precise on the palate, it has great depth, pure fruit, broad tannins and a freshness that brings shape and definition. A Nacional of great class, authority and ageing potential.

Only 167 cases of Quinta do Noval Nacional Vintage Port were produced in 2024.

Reviews

More concentrated and intense, with notable purity and energy. Medium- to full-bodied in the context of the range yet approachable, with a clear sense of direction. There is both tension and concentration, carried by focused tannins that bring definition and detail.
98-99 points, Jacobo García Andrade, James Suckling
Black with almost no rim. Dark-fruited and lightly charry/savoury. Pure power clothed in utmost restraint. Then a burst of heady blueberry sweetness on the palate. Incredibly smooth tannins, so much so that you could drink this now. Generous, mouth-filling and instinctively harmonious. Swings back and forth between sweet and more savoury. Heart-stopping.
19.5 points, Julia Harding, MW, Jancis Robinson
