First produced in 2009, Ponsot’s Corton-Charlemagne is drawn from two parcels, both in Aloxe: one on the Pernand border in Le Charlemagne and the second in Les Languettes. As you can see from the notes below, this is a deep, fleshy yet energetic and vibrant Charlemagne. A great success!

Maison Ponsot Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne 2020

Reviews

“Split equally between fruit from Les Languettes and Le Charlemagne on the Aloxe side, this was a slow fermenter. It didn't finish its alcoholic fermentation until July 2021! As they say, good things come to those who wait. This pristine pure white has lovely finesse. Its mildly weighty palate is smoothed with a touch of glycerol. The lightly toasty notes mesh well with the Comice pears and ripe citrus. A wet stone minerality sifts through the hearty finish.”
96 points, Christine Canterbury, Tim Atkin Burgundy Special Report
“This has only just finished its fermentation, so there is a bit more gas. 5 barrels made. Clear pale lemon. Rather reductive on the nose. Interesting lemon scented minerals beneath, not yet together but fine potential. Quite sweetly scented but there is a lot happening here and the structure behind is all that it should be. Is it the oak which gives this extra sucrosity?”
93-95 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru opens in the glass with aromas of citrus zest, fresh bread, pear and beeswax. Full-bodied, taut and chalky, it's incisive and tightly wound, with lovely depth at the core and a long, tangy finish.”
92-94 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
