Drawn from a small parcel (0.47 hectares) of vines replanted in 1990, the first domaine bottling of this wine dates back to 1970. The vines are in the Gémeaux lieu-dit that borders Cherbaudes and En la Chapelle, which in turn borders En Griotte. The soils here are particularly poor and rocky, typically producing wines of great minerality and longevity. This cuvée now sees a longer time on skins but with a gentler extraction. It’s all the better for it. The 2020 is a supremely classy example of this terroir with layers of crushed plum, brown spice-noted fruit and juicy, mouth-watering freshness. Gorgeous!

Reviews

“The 2020 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has quite a bold bouquet with blackberries, raspberry coulis, Clementine and just a soupcon of marmalade. Lovely definition and beautifully integrated oak. The palate is very pliant on the entry with a silky smooth texture, very harmonious with almost Vosne-like sensuality on the finish. This cuvee now sees less extraction at lower temperatures, and I believe this has certainly meliorated this wine.”
94-96 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
“This Grand Cru starts off with a fantastic rose petal and mineral perfume. Mulberries and blackberries light up the highly-concentrated palate, and a touch of ganache shows on the lingering finish. Scintillating acidity and suave, lightly drying tannins focus the rich texture. This lithe and energetic wine comes from approximately 35-year-old vines.”
96 points, Christine Canterbury, Tim Atkin Burgundy Special Report
“Wafting from the glass with notes of dark berries, orange zest, spices and red fruit compote, the 2021 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, its satiny attack segueing into a layered, concentrated core of fruit and a long, saline finish.”
