Alberto Oggero Valle Dei Lunghi 2020

Oggero’s parcel in the commune of Valle Dei Lunghi is nicknamed ‘The Outsider’. It’s a site within the Anime vineyard of Santo Stefano that’s sparse and almost wild in appearance, with interplanted, guyot-pruned 80-year-old Arneis and Nebbiolo vines. The higher proportion of clay in the otherwise sandy soil at this site provides greater extract, and the resultant wine is tightly bound to the soil where it grows. After a hand harvest, the fruit saw 10 days of maceration in steel tanks. Élevage was completed over 14 months in cement tanks, followed by one year in bottle before release. A self-confessed staff favourite, this is both a nod to the ancient vines and site, and a completely out-of-the-box expression of Arneis.
