Like the Roussanne, the Viognier also comes from Soullard’s grower in the Ardèche. The Viognier is picked earlier than the Rousanne, at the same time as the Saint Joseph – the 2020 was picked on the 10th of September. This cooler site plays seamlessly into this growers’ desire for restrained, refreshing and linear whites. Old vines, precise picking dates and artisanal vinification mean this is the antithesis of blowsy Viognier. It was raised in aged in neutral old oak for 12-15 months to retain fruit purity.
