This is a young plot for JBS. Initially earmarked as a blending component, on seeing the inherent potential in the site and the outright quality of fruit, JBS made the decision to bottle the Tenay as a single-site wine. His instincts proved right. The Tenay site is located 3 kilometres northwest of the Village of Crozes-Hermitage. The site is very steep, facing southeast at an altitude of 200m, with a complex soil composition that includes granite, alluvium, loess and gneiss. The vines are gobelet pruned with wooden stakes – lutte raisonnée indeed. Though this is a young plot, the complexity in the soils combined with JBS’s fastidious attention to detail, contribute layers of complexity that belies its youth. The wine has a large proportion of whole bunch and is aged for 12-15 months in older oak barrels.
