The vineyard name, Les Longeroies, probably comes from the French verb longer, which means ‘to border’. This makes sense as Longeroies is on the boundary between Marsannay and the next village of Chenôve. It is one of the star climats of the commune and has been earmarked for promotion to 1er Cru (when they finally come through!). Longeroies faces south, and the two Mortet parcels sit mid-slope. One plot has 50-year-old vines; the other was planted with a Pinot Fin selection in 1992.

The aging consisted of 18 months in oak, only 10% new and the balance in one- and two-year-old barrels. Once again, some 50% bunches were used. Although the prices are now rising, Marsannay remains one of the last great-value appellations of the Côte, and this is certainly one of its very best examples.

Reviews

“50+% whole bunch vinification and 10% new wood. Generous mid ruby. Slightly more discreet on the nose, but with a more mouthfilling fruit thereafter, darker raspberry, long finish, fills the palate. A sensual and stylish Marsannay, with backbone.”
88-91 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“Aromas of raspberries, cherries and plums introduce the 2023 Marsannay Les Longeroies, a medium-bodied, supple and succulent wine that's lively and harmonious.”
89-90 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“The 2023 Marsannay Les Longeroies includes 50% whole bunch and was raised in 10% new oak. It has a lifted, vibrant bouquet with red cherries and redcurrant scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a dab of white pepper. Quite open, it closes with a twist of bitter cherry on the finish and some graphite notes that linger on the aftertaste. This is a well-crafted, probably early-drinking Marsannay from Arnaud Mortet.”
89-91 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
