This wine comes from the vines at the very top of Clos de l’Arlot. It is named after the little passageway at the top of the vineyard, from which you can hear birdsong from the forest above. The vines are around 20 years old. This plot has a particular terroir: steep, with a blend of white and pink limestone and chalky clay topsoil. The vines here ripen a few days earlier than their counterparts on the more clay-rich soils of the bottom part of the site. The 2022 is a wonderful wine with superb finesse and perfume. “Has the palate weight of a fine Chambolle with the spice of Vosne,” I wrote. The Bill Nanson note below captures it well.

Reviews

“The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Mont des Oiseaux 1er Cru was raised in 35% new oak and taken from barrel. The nose demonstrated a slight reduction, though attractive cranberry and wild strawberry fruit are already in place. The medium-bodied palate offers dark berry fruit laced with blood orange and a touch of clove. Quite citrus-fresh towards the well-structured finish. There is ample depth here, and the oak allows the terroir to shine. Very fine.”
91-93 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
“Top part of the Clos de l’Arlot on white limestone, younger clonal vines. A pretty mid purple, what seems to be an iron rich note on the nose, though it is not that. A stony touch too. This is elegant, medium bodied, indeed seems light at first until there is a burst of fruit towards the back. Good crisp acidity to finish along with an attractive red fruit perfume.”
90-92 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“Narrower, very fine – there’s fruit focus and a pretty floral perfume too – rather elegant. Again, fluid, the flavour has energy but not too much, the texture is lovely, and the intensity is also present but not too much – a wine to sink into without being too contemplative – super wine!”
