This wine comes from the vines at the very top of Clos de l’Arlot. It is named after the little passageway at the top of the vineyard, from which you can hear birdsong from the forest above. The vines are around 20 years old. This plot has a particular terroir: steep, with a blend of white and pink limestone and chalky clay topsoil. The vines here ripen a few days earlier than their counterparts on the more clay-rich soils of the bottom part of the site. The 2022 is a wonderful wine with superb finesse and perfume. “Has the palate weight of a fine Chambolle with the spice of Vosne,” I wrote. The Bill Nanson note below captures it well.
