Extremely limited. Although Mortet’s 0.32 hectares of vines are in the lower part of this historic vineyard, they are some of the oldest (more than 60 years) and most fastidiously farmed vines in the entire clos. Mortet has always produced one of the vineyard’s finest wines (other growers admit as much), with an intensely floral and Musigny-like style. The 2022 is immensely powerful and hedonistic, comfortably soaking up its 50% new oak. It is nonetheless super perfumed and bright, and the finish is vibrant and fresh. 50% hand destemmed berries (a lot!) were used to bring finesse and lift.

Reviews

“Fine medium deep purple, plenty of dark fruit energy, a little wood behind, medium bodied for Clos Vougeot with a good structure for longer ageing. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2023.”
92-95 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“This is the most expressive and high-toned cuvée from Mortet: tangerine and Clementine infusing the red cherry fruit with a faint touch of peppermint. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, very harmonious and silky smooth with white pepper and a subtle savory note on the finish. Very fine.”
92-94 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
