Two Tonne Tasmania

2025 Releases from Ricky Evans's Flagship Label
Two Tonne Tasmania

Ricky Evans’s wines have earned a strong following for good reason: they are vivid, site-driven and consistently overdeliver for the price. Under the Two Tonne Tasmania label, Ricky explores various sites across the island's sub-regions, shining a light on the unique, terroir-driven aspects of the landscapes and vineyards that define Tasmania’s distinctive regional characters. The 2025 releases are especially compelling, bringing together a quietly glossy TMV Chardonnay and three Pinot Noirs that each speak clearly of place — bright and layered in the Tamar, broader and darker in the south, and finer, more mineral on the Freycinet Coast.

These are pure, polished and highly drinkable wines with real regional character, and at $23.50 a bottle across the range, they offer outstanding value.

The Wines

Two Tonne Tasmania TMV Chardonnay 2025

Two Tonne Tasmania TMV Chardonnay 2025

100% Chardonnay. As always, the TMV Chardonnay comes from a blend of sites, anchored by Ricky’s home vineyard, Woodlawn Park. A cool expression of the Tamar Valley, this breezy site on free-draining sandy soils near the river in Swan Bay produces vibrantly pure, potent fruit. The grapes are mostly whole-bunch pressed, settled overnight, and run to oak the following morning, with fermentation carried out predominantly in 500L casks (including a small portion of new oak).

Site and fruit profile dictated the level of solids in each parcel, while a greater share of the blend went through malolactic conversion in 2025, lending an extra lick of richness and breadth. After blending, the wine spent a further month on fine lees in tank, giving a relaxed, quietly glossy feel on release, all tempered by the region’s signature cooling natural acidity.

Two Tonne Tasmania TMV Pinot Noir 2025

Two Tonne Tasmania TMV Pinot Noir 2025

100% Pinot Noir. This is the wine that started it all for Ricky, and the 2025 release again shows just how finely the Tamar Valley can be tuned through thoughtful blending. Drawn from three distinct parts of the valley, the blend combines fruit from Ricky’s own vineyards with a small number of trusted growers, with Woodlawn in Swan Bay again providing an important foundation. Additional sites across Hillwood, Rowella, White Hills and Relbia bring shape and detail to the final wine, each contributing something different to this classical TMV expression.

A warm spring and healthy fruit set delivered solid, balanced yields, while a dry, relatively warm summer brought an early start before cooler conditions demanded patience in the final ripening decisions. The ferment included 10% whole bunches across the blend, and the wine matured for 11 months in oak, building spice, structure and quiet complexity around the bright red-fruited purity and freshness that define this cuvée.

Two Tonne Tasmania STH Pinot Noir 2025

100% Pinot Noir. Ricky's southern Pinot blend takes an intriguing step forward in 2025, with Huon Valley fruit joining that of the Derwent and Coal River valleys for the first time, completing a triptych of Tasmania's most southern sources. Made from roughly equal portions from each valley, the blend offers a broader, more layered expression than previous releases, with the Huon component in particular bringing an unexpected depth and plushness to the wine. Each parcel was handled in much the same way, with small amounts of whole bunch throughout the blend (around 10% overall), gentle extraction and early pressing preserving purity and poise. The wine then matured for 11 months in oak, building texture and shape around the darker-fruited, savoury profile that has become a hallmark of this southern release.

Two Tonne Tasmania EST Pinot Noir 2025

100% Pinot Noir. Sourced from the Freycinet Coast on Tasmania’s eastern seaboard, this wine again speaks clearly of one of the island’s most distinctive Pinot Noir territories. Whole berry fermented, with just over a week spent on skins, the wine was gently worked throughout: pumpovers early and hand-plunged to finish before being pressed off whilst still warm. The result is a poised and savoury Pinot; more lithe than previous vintages but carrying the unmistakable graphite and soil-driven tannin that is so representative of the area.

"Beautifully made wines across the board and one of Tasmania’s most exciting young producers." Dave Brookes, The Wine Companion
