Ravensworth Bounces Back With Three New Releases
Ravensworth 2025

Three new delicious releases from the great Bryan Martin have landed, namely the Estate Chard and two fascinating, single clone Sangiovese. Followers of Ravensworth (and Canberra wine in general) will know that frost devastated most of Bryan's production in 2024, but in 2025 the vines bounced back and Bryan finally had enough Sangiovese to bottle two single clone batches (something he was itching to do). MAT7 & VCR23 may sound like two Star Wars characters, but they've produced a couple of fascinating and delicious expressions of this under-utilised grape variety (under-utilised in Australia that is).

Ravensworth Estate Chardonnay 2025

Estate grown and fermented naturally in new Seguin Moreau and Dominique Laurent barrels alongside Wineglobe (glass vessels) which Martin uses to bring more precision and purity. A year on lees has built the aromatics and palate, and with no fining or filtration, you get a wonderfully aromatic, layered, complex and deep expression of Murrumbateman in all its glory! Super classy oak is in support to the waves of stone fruit, creamy lees and a kiss of almond, all balanced by vibrant freshness. Lovely stuff!

Ravensworth Single Clone Sangiovese MAT7 2025

Sourced from a clone straight out of Chianti Classico, MAT7 is known for its deep colour, vibrant fruit and for doing well in cooler sites. Here whole berries went into a 1250L Nico Velo concrete pyramid, with the wine spending a long, six weeks on skins, before being pressed and returned for another 12 months in the same vessel. Concrete over oak lets the clonal character speak for itself. Lots of bright red fruit and a complex earthy finish.

Ravensworth Single Clone Sangiovese VCR23 2025

The second clonal release is from VCR23, a clone from Emilia-Romagna just northeast of Tuscany, again chosen for its ability to hold up in cooler climates. Where MAT7 leans red fruited however, VCR23 brings more spice, darker fruit, more structure. Same process as its sibling: whole berries, 1250 litre Nico Velo concrete pyramid, six weeks on skins, 12 months maturation, no oak to get in the way.
