Organic. Voyager Estate's Chardonnay reflects the cool-climate Stevens Valley, in the Wallcliffe subregion—arguably Margaret River's finest Chardonnay zone, with gravelly soils over clay and cooling Indian Ocean breezes. The vineyard spans six blocks across four clones: Gingin for power and concentration, and Dijon 95, 96 and 76 for texture, finesse and freshness.
2020 was a near-perfect season bar a brief October hailstorm—warm, dry spring, hot December, then milder January ripening. Chardonnay was picked first, from early February, with pristine freshness and concentration.
Hand-harvested, cooled overnight, whole-bunch pressed and fermented naturally in French oak (36% new, 38% one-year-old), with selected parcels through malolactic fermentation. Matured nine months. Grapefruit zest, lemon meringue and butterscotch on the nose; soft, intensely fruited palate with toasty notes and a chalky finish. Cellar up to 15 years.
