Uwe Schiefer’s precise 'Burgundian'-styled Blaufränkisch have become a prototype of the Austrian avant-garde, and none more so than his expressive, lithe Eisenberg cuvees. Vom Blauen Schiefer, or "from blue schist", is a blend of Estate vineyards on the slopes of the majestic Eiseberg hill. Schiefer's hillside vines here are rooted in a unique green-blue slate with veins of iron, which, along with the high altitude and cool climate here on the Hungarian border, makes for some of the most precise and mineral Blaufränkisch we have tasted. This 2015 was hand harvested and naturally fermented before maturing for two years on lees in large, mature oak vessels. Bottled without fining of filtration.
