SAMO Rouge 2016

Syrah. This is Étienne Fort’s (Monsieur S) still Limoux red from organically tended vines at high, 350-metres altitude aged in older demi-muids. Only made in the vintages with correct conditions, it’s culled from 30-year-old Syrah rooted in Limoux’s rocky, argilo-calcaire soils. Named after Jean-Michel Basquiat, who created political and poetical graffiti in New York during the late 1970s under the name of Samo, it is made in a style reminiscent of Beaujolais, with whole bunches and a measure of carbonic maceration.
