“Where would the Rheingau’s tradition of high-end Riesling dessert wines be today if it weren’t for Wilhelm Weil’s modern masterpieces in the style?” Stuart Pigott, Best White Wine on Earth: The Riesling Story

Although we tend to focus on the dry wines in Australia, Weil is widely considered one of the true greats of the sweeter Prädikat styles. One of the keys to this estate’s success with these wines is the mountainous, rocky setting of the Kiedricher Berg vineyards, which allows for a perfect balance between natural sweetness, mouth-watering freshness and intense minerality.

Reviews

“The 2020 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Spätlese offers a deep, complex and refined bouquet with flinty aromas. Highly refined and elegant on the palate, this is a salty-piquant, fresh, vital and energetic Gräfenberg with a long, piquant and salty finish. Very young but really fascinating in its brilliance, piquancy and salinity.”
94 points, Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate
“Very complex, exotic floral and fruit aromas, which are all very delicate and fresh. Super focused and straight, the natural grape sweetness way in the background of the ripe yet sleek palate. At the finish, a cascade of pomegranate, exotic-fruit and herb character is married to intensely mineral acidity. Drink or hold.”
