This is a graceful Riesling from Michael Downer and the team at Murdoch Hills. Sitting at a prim 11% alcohol, it boasts a clean and firm acid line with an undercurrent of brisk minerality and soft orchard fruits. The mineral note may be thanks to the ironstone rockbed that these vines grow atop in the Macclesfield vineyard. The vines here are over 20 years old, delivering both generosity and concentration. In the vineyard, Downer and the team follow sustinable practices to preserve the land and grow great fruit.
The 2025 vintage was dry and early, helping to preserve excellent natural acidity and crisp citrus notes. The grapes were hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed into barrel and tank where they fermented wild on fine solids. A stellar wine again from this producer.
