Surrounded by 1er Cru sites, the evocatively named Les Hâtes is one of the best village terroirs in Santenay. Lamy’s tiny 0.67-hectare plot is in the heart of the climat, in the original walled vineyard. The owner in the 19th century was a certain M. Duvault-Blochet, who also owned Domaine de la Romanée-Conti at that time.

This comes mostly from young vines that were mass-selected in 1999 from the vineyards of d’Angerville and Henri Boillot and planted on quality rootstock that produces very small berries and bunches. There is also a parcel of older vines. The 2021 was vinified with 50% whole bunches, and no sulphur was added until bottling.

Reviews

“Aromas of plums, raspberries, orange zest and cinnamon introduce the 2021 Santenay Clos des Hâtes, a medium to full-bodied, deep and structured wine framed by powdery structuring tannins. If the Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne is more immediate, this will reward a little patience.”
89+ points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“A nose with more colour and also more depth of aroma. More mouth-filling energy and clarity almost a mm of cushion brings comfort to this fabulous wine.”
