In March 2021, the domaine purchased a small parcel of 1976-planted vines in this Savigny 1er Cru. Named after the vineyard’s light, sandy-gravelly soil, the south-facing Aux Gravains lies between Les Lavières and Aux Serpentières in the middle of the 1er cru slope. The cool air of the Combe de Bouillon brings freshness while light limestone soils give plenty of perfumed, floral lift and silken, mouthcoating tannins. Jean-François and Lucie Germain are very happy with the site and, based on our first experience with the wine, they should be! 2022 gave nine barrels instead of 2021’s paltry four, and the wine is a deliciously juicy, vibrant expression of Savigny.

Domaine Henri Germain Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains Rouge 2022

Reviews

“A full throttle purple colour, no doubting the density this year. Plums and dark berries, retaining the powerful style chez Germain up front, then becoming much purer behind with a long red fruit finish. Balanced acidity.”
89-92 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Gravins 1er Cru has an exquisite and pure bouquet with Morello cherries, crushed strawberries and touches of white flowers. This is well-defined and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, lovely poise and purity with a mineral-rich finish. Pick of Germain's reds.”
90-92 points, Neal Martin, Vinous
