Another of Beaune’s finest terroirs, David Croix farms just 0.30 hectares in the 1er Cru of Les Grèves. Jasper Morris MW (Inside Burgundy) refers to this vineyard as “absolutely the heartland of Beaune”, and it typically produces the appellation’s deepest, longest-lived wines. Croix’s parcel, planted in 1968, has been farmed organically for over a decade. The vines lie just next to Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus—widely considered the best location on the slope—on brown clay soils with gravel. Vinified with 35% whole bunches, the wine matured without any new oak.

Domaine des Croix Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves 2021

Reviews

“The 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Grèves is lovely, unwinding in the glass with aromas of exotic spices, rose petals, blood orange and sweet red berries. Medium to full-bodied, lively and layered, with powdery tannins, succulent acids and a long, saline finish, it's the most complete of Croix's premiers crus.”
91-93 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“A lovely crimson colour with an uplifting bouquet. One third whole bunch which seems to be the sweet spot this year. Talking of which there is a gorgeous opulence of ripe cherry fruit which fills the mouth. Balanced and come hither. Just the right Grèves tannins to finish. Drink from 2026-2032.”
