This tiny 0.6-hectare monopole above the Corgoloin cemetery was the jewel in Gilles Jourdan’s portfolio. Now, Camille Thiriet wears the crown. The vineyard takes its name from the owner in Napoleonic times, and part of the site’s claim to fame is the rare outcropping of blue marl that imbues its wines with expectational longevity. It’s the only vineyard in the area with these rare soils. Camille told us she has tasted wines from 1957 and 1979 with the previous owner and was blown away by the quality. The vines in Thiriet’s plot average 60 years old, and Camille’s inaugural vintage fermented with 40% bunches. This is Thiriet’s most serious and complex wine: compact with deep, dark cherry fruit, roasted brown spice notes and fine, powdery tannins.

Reviews

“A beautifully concentrated crimson purple. A stunning nose here with more intensity than the others. A grand nobility of fruit all the red berries. Fills the mouth, supported by quality granular tannins, but seamless all the way though. A future 1er Cru? There are plans to submit a dossier to promote the top terroirs of the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation.”

“The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages La Robignotte comes from a vineyard that was classified as a monopole, named after a famous surgeon. It has blue marn soils that are rare in Burgundy and lend depth. It just takes a few swirls to open up, revealing briar, raspberry, graphite, truffle and touches of garrigues. This is very complex. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly spiced entry thanks in part to the 50% whole bunch. This lingers in the mouth—a truly exquisite Pinot Noir.”
