Antoine Jobard has taken the decision in recent vintages to rationalise his Meursault village into a single cuvée because “the wine is simply better that way”. So En La Barre, located just behind the cellar (and abutting Lafon’s Clos de la Barre), now forms the heart of this cuvée. Together, in fact, the two brilliant sites of En la Barre and Les Tillets now account for around 50% of the blend, alongside Meix Tavaux, Les Corbins, Sous La Velle, Les Chaumes de Narvaux and Le Pré de Manche. Across the parcels, vine age varies from 16 to 50 years. More than ever, then, Jobard’s Meursault represents one of this village’s benchmark bottlings. The 2021 is a stunning example: textured, creamy and super classy.

“The 2021 Meursault Village is a blend of several lieux-dits that was introduced by Jobard last year, so this is not the result of this year's depleted volumes. It has a light, apple blossom and pear scented nose, quite Puligny in style as it becomes more malic with aeration. The palate is well balanced with fine weight, a slight bitter edge that imparts tension on the finish, though just a bit short.”

“Clear pale lemon yellow. Some bitter apple fruit on the nose. It felt at first as though this blended Meursault was going to be mean and lean but the is really a lot more to it on the palate, still predominantly apple in flavour. Some citrus too at the finish. A lot of potential here. Drink from 2026-2029.”
