Another benchmark and a candidate for the best wine of the appellation, if only people had the chance to taste it! Sadly, we get only a few bottles. Jobard’s 0.7-hectare parcel of 35-year-old vines lies next to the iconic Genevrières cabotte (or workers’ cottage) in Genevrières Dessous. Year in, year out, this is a wine of great purity and intensity—a personality Jobard attributes to the quality of his vine material, a mass selection planted in the 1960s. “Here, we always get well-formed berries; we never see under- or overripe grapes. The fruit is always well-balanced with good pH and incredible acidity,” he says. Another wine we shouldn’t say more about, except if you’re offered some, grab it. It is great Grand Cru in all but name.
