Another benchmark and a candidate for the best wine of the appellation, if only people had the chance to taste it! Sadly, we get only a few bottles. Jobard’s 0.7-hectare parcel of 35-year-old vines lies next to the iconic Genevrières cabotte (or workers’ cottage) in Genevrières Dessous. Year in, year out, this is a wine of great purity and intensity—a personality Jobard attributes to the quality of his vine material, a mass selection planted in the 1960s. “Here, we always get well-formed berries; we never see under- or overripe grapes. The fruit is always well-balanced with good pH and incredible acidity,” he says. Another wine we shouldn’t say more about, except if you’re offered some, grab it. It is great Grand Cru in all but name.

Reviews

“The classic granular complexity – like a white Vosne – of Genevrières – here mixed with beautiful floral perfume – yes, this is the best, even if a hint of oak barrel is intruding today. Seamless, shimmering with flavour – again a mm or two of richness to pad the flavours and again with a small accent of barrel. A calmer, more contemplative wine than the Charmes and a top wine. Maybe my preference is for the Charmes today though!”
Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
“The 2022 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru has a lively bouquet, walnut and flint infusing the citrus fruit, with hints of quince in the background. This has got it going on (aromatically). The palate is just fabulous, very vivacious, with wonderful acidity and tension throughout and one of the most intense finishes of any Meursault I tasted from barrel in this vintage. Enormous length. Wow.”
