Denton Chardonnay 2022

The Denton vineyard is an excellent terroir. Shaped like a cone, it’s a granite-rich site with sandy soils above hulking granite boulders. This is key to the character and quality of the wines grown here. Recent innovation and investment in the vineyard have focused on enriching and reinvigorating soil health through organic management, under-vine cultivation and a move towards eliminating herbicides. With Kirilly Gordon at the helm in the cellar and vineyard manager Julian Parrott keeping a watchful eye on things outside, the wines from this estate have never looked better. The Chardonnay hails from the northeastern slope, a spot that sees the softest morning light and is shielded from the harsh afternoon rays. The clone is Dijon 96, prized for giving fruit with fine length and structure. The bunches were pressed to old puncheons for fermentation, malolactic conversion and maturation. This is Denton Chardonnay in flying form from a long, mild, even season.
