Alexandre’s 1.67 hectares of vines (83% Chardonnay) were planted on the Heurtebise plot in 1972, 1985, 1986 and 2010. It’s located on a windy plateau with a sunny, southern exposure, but the strong winds (Heurtebise translates as 'windfall') help moderate conditions. The soils are Thanetian sands mixed with clay on sandstone, and the plot is prone to swing between water stress and excess. It's one of Alexandre's most variable sites, and he must adapt his approach from one season to the next.
Alexandre tells us that—much more than with neighbouring plots—these wines tend to absorb and integrate influence in the cellar, particularly aging in oak. The wine spends up to 18 months in 228-litre casks before secondary fermentation. Dosage: 2.4 g/L.
