Only 30 bottles shipped. Les Santenots is one of Volnay’s top 1er Cru sites. The clay-rich soils produce wines of perfumed depth and good structure. To give some idea of the quality, we asked Leroux many years ago if there was one vineyard in Volnay he would particularly like to work with. Without hesitation, he replied Santenots, mentioning that he buys the wine of this vineyard every year from his friend Dominique Lafon, and loves it. Of course, he then went on to speak about Caillerets (the village’s most revered site—that he first made under his own label in 2011). His Santenots dream only came true when Leroux finally got access to this vineyard in 2018, and now owns a one-hectare plot of 70-year-old, Estate-owned vines in the lieu-dit Les Plures. Made with 40% whole-bunch, this is a fine yet intense Volnay that is a real keeper. If you drink or serve it young, please give it a good decant, otherwise it will really start to pop after 10 years.
