This high-grown wine is a favourite among followers of this producer. Little wonder Leroux has made a consistently excellent wine from the same two blocks in this vineyard for twenty years, and he now owns these same sites. Both parcels, totalling roughly 0.8 hectares, are east-facing, late-ripening (like the whole of Vireuils) with rocky, limestone soils, and some flint. The vines date back to the mid-1970s. Here we are in Vireuils Dessus, one of the higher sites of Meursault, above the renowned Les Chevalières and Rougeots. In short, one of the best areas for village-level wine in the commune. Leroux acquired the vineyard outright in 2024, and the wine will become fully Domaine-farmed starting with the 2025 vintage. But really, nothing will change except potentially the label, as Leroux thinks he will go to Vireuils Dessus, instead of Les Vireuils. The 2024 has a load of depth for such a cool site, yet of course this is balanced by fabulous, saline freshness and drive.
