Only 18 bottles shipped. Narvaux is another of Leroux’s “classic hits” and another one of Meursault’s highest vineyards, sitting above 1er Cru Les Genevrières. This comes from 0.10 hectares planted in 1975 at the top of the vineyard—Les Narvaux Dessus (are you seeing a pattern?)—a parcel in the Clos de Narvaux, right next to Dominique Lafon’s vines. The soils here are very shallow and have plenty of limestone and iron oxide in the clay, giving the soil a reddish tinge. Although it’s high, it also faces south, and this, along with the low yields, allows for excellent ripeness. Leroux calls it ‘a dream vineyard’, and the site has been beautifully managed for a generation, with all the work done without a tractor by a vigneron who has sadly since passed away, aged 85. Ben told us that the vigneron had been working in the vines right up to his final hours. The 2024 is brilliant, a rocky, mineral, smoky and long Narvaux bomb!
