Only 1 magnum shipped! This is a separate bottling from Ben’s oldest vines in La Pièce Sous Le Bois, planted in 1950. At the top of the slope, these vines are particularly low-yielding. This fruit has always been vinified separately, even if 2022 was the first vintage to be given its own bottling. The wine goes some way to explaining why this terroir was labelled Blagny-Montrachet in the 1920s! Only bottled in magnum, the stunning palate has more power and a tighter, stonier texture than the regular cuvée, with a long, saline finish.

“Five Stars. The nose is a little oakier than the regular version, three barrels with one new for fermentation. Also some spice from the barrel. The wine has an additional density. Much weightier in all departments so makes a grander statement, but that should in no way denigrate the excellent bottled version. Remarkably long finish. The drink dates reflect the magnum format. Drink from 2030-2036. ”

“The 2024 Meursault-Blagny La Pièce Sous Le Bois Cuvée 1950 1er Cru has much more intensity on the nose compared to the regular cuvée; lovely lemon curd and citrus peel scents, focused with a bit more mineralité. The palate is well balanced with citrus and lemon verbena notes, fanning out wonderfully on the finish. This will be bottled en magnum.”
