Only 24 bottles shipped. This is now a flagship wine for Leroux, who works 1.5 of the 2.2 hectares of Chardonnay available. Leroux’s vines average 50 years old and are biodynamically certified. This is perhaps Ben’s most extreme and rocky terroir. While it lies at high altitude (320 to 350 metres) and endures bitterly cold winters, the vineyard picks up plenty of sun during the summer. It’s no secret that Leroux is a HUGE fan of Blagny, constantly wearing his “In Blagny we Trust” T-shirt, including for this year’s video recordings. It’s the high altitude, the rockiness that he loves, and the energy it brings in the era of climate change. Here, he used various aging vessels, including a glass Wineglobe and a new egg-shaped foudre. This has lovely vibrancy, floral, citrus-edged fruit. Superb class, as the notes below make clear.
