Leroux’s terrific Auxey-Duresses has always been another one of the range’s great-value wines—drinking superbly young and aging very well, too. The fruit comes from two terroirs—Les Hautés and La Macabrée —both abutting Meursault’s Les Vireuils Dessous and Les Meix Chavaux. The oldest vines date back to 1946. The land here faces north, enduring the cold air rolling down from the Hautes Côtes—a very fresh terroir! I think this has claims to be the best example we have shipped. It has all the mineral and saline raciness you expect, but with excellent depth.

“A little more lemon in the colour. Lively perfumed fruit, quite floral. These Auxey vineyards can ripen fully these days. Very fine boned on the palate, ripe citrus, excellent length. Small yield here as late flowering under same conditions as the reds. Drink from 2028-2031.”
