This has always been a Vosne lieu-dit of 1er Cru quality. The vines here sit just below Suchots and Échezeaux and right beside Clos de Vougeot. They also have an average age of about 60 years, so the quality should come as no big surprise. Lachaux farms just 0.6-hectares and notes that the vineyard’s iron-rich soil gives more depth and perfume than found in the blended Vosne, which is evident in this wine’s intensely perfumed, mineral-flecked, deep fruit, and firm, powdery frame.

Arnoux-Lachaux Vosne-Romanée Les Hautes Maizières 2018

Reviews

“Similar palish colour, fresh light aromatics, not the brightest of fruit in fact, a little bit smoky from the stems, some strawberry notes, with a touch of orange zest excellent length and a long sweet finish. The length of flavour is astonishing.” 92-94 points
93 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“Outstanding. Top Value. An exuberantly spicy nose freely offers up aromas of violet, poached plum and dark cherry along with a lovely hint of orange pekoe tea. The succulent and suave medium-bodied flavors brim with dry extract before terminating in a powerful, punchy and palate coating if mildly rustic finish. This notably firm effort is not particularly elegant but overall it is an excellent and ageworthy Vosne villages.” 90-92 points
91 points, Allen Meadows, Burghound
“Revisited a year later, Lachaux's 2018 Vosne-Romanée Hautes-Maizières is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with notes of sweet wild berries, peonies, blood orange, raw cocoa, Indian spices and sassafras. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's layered and lively, with an ample core of fruit and powdery structuring tannins. Youthfully reserved today, this will really begin to unfurl with five or six years in bottle.”
