This wine has long been one of the finest examples of Bourgogne AOC thanks to the quality of terroirs, plant material and farming practices. It comes from seven Pinot Fin (non-clonal Pinot) parcels, including one parcel planted in 1959 at Prémeaux in Nuits-Saint-Georges. This vineyard perennially suffers from millerandage (resulting in tiny berries and bunches) and thus generates low yields of rich, concentrated juice. Approximately half of this vintage is from Chambolle-Musigny (Les Bon Batons) and a quarter each from Vosne-Romanée (Les Croix Blanches) and Nuits-Saint-Georges (Les Caillots and Grand Chaillot). Cropped at a mind-blowingly low 15 hectolitres per hectare, this is nonetheless Lachaux's highest-yielding cuvée from 2020! It was vinified with 100% whole bunches and raised exclusively in mature barrels.

Reviews

“If its 2019 counterpart is currently offering very demonstrative drinking, the 2020 Bourgogne Pinot Fin will require a bit of patience, as it's more reticent and less overtly marked by its whole cluster vinification. Unwinding in the glass with notes of plums, dark berries and sweet spices, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a rich core of fruit framed by powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish, reflecting the conditions of the vintage.”
89 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“Arnoux-Lachaux 2020 has an exceptional depth to its rich deep crimson purple colour. The nose is fascinatingly spicy as well as a deep velvet richness. Yet fine too! Very dark cherry, with some blacker notes, succulent at the front, a little drier behind. The tannins are certainly present, but such a wealth of fruit to cover them. Quite long and certainly powerful, if less ethereal than the 2019. Drink from 2024-2027.”
