Named after Chris and Jo’s young girl, the 2019 is a blend of 44% Cabernet Franc, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon & 18% Merlot. The un-irrigated vines were planted in 1999 in north-south orientation on a small ridge with soil of gravelly loam adjacent to Davies’ oldest Cabernet vines.
The fruit was hand-picked, sorted, crushed and de-stemmed, then fermented wild in 1000-litre open fermenters with regular manual plunging. The wine was gently pressed off using a traditional hand-operated basket press, and then racked to French barriques (30% new) for 15 months prior to bottling.
