With both this cuvée and the wonderful Rugiens-Hauts, Leroux is back in Pommard with a bang. As with last year, this is a blend of Les Vaumuriens (high on the slope) and Les Cras (on the lower slope), both vineyards lying on the Volnay side of the village. Leroux notes the cooler, hillside fruit from Les Vaumuriens brings freshness and balance to the blend. This was crafted from 100% de-stemmed berries and raised with roughly 20% new oak.

Reviews

“The village Pommard is a successful mix from top and bottom, Vaumuriens Hauts and Les Cras. Rich concentrated purple, quite a backward nose then a wealth of dark but far from cooked fruit, with a fresh energy behind.” 89-92 points
Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
“The 2020 Pommard Village has a finely detailed bouquet with black plum and boysenberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, supple and lithe with a touch of spice on the finish. This punches above its weight.” 90-92 points
Neal Martin, Vinous
