Antoine Jobard’s top red is drawn from vines planted in the ‘island’ of Petit Epenots just between Grand Epenots and Pezerolles. While one may expect this site to deliver a rich, burley style typical of Pommard, in Jobard’s hands it is vineyard that also delivers finesse—in the context of Pommard—and texture that is as much Volnay as Pommard. From 0.6-hectares of vines planted in 1982 and 1986, Jobard fashions a captivating and seductive wine packed with wild berry and floral notes, lovely flesh and super fine tannins. Serious class.

Reviews

“A width of aroma that’s quite perfumed but less incisive than the Saucilles today. Extra scale in the mouth – I love this energy too. If the aromas aren’t quite ready, the flavours certainly are – focused, good energy and very accessible finishing flavour – there are bitters but ‘soft’ bitters. That’s tasting super today…”
Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
“This was in the best condition among the Mussy vines, so fewer vine replacements have been needed. Mid crimson red. This has an even-handed generosity of fruit, strawberry, cherry and a suggestion of raspberry. Very fine boned tannins and appreciable length. A good wine from a great vineyard.”
91-93 points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy
