The Nebbiolo vines sit halfway up the northwestern slope on the cone-shaped Denton site. The granite-rich soils, elevation and exposure―as well as the site’s long, slow growing conditions―provide a suitable environment for such a marginal variety as Nebbiolo. The block is planted to several clones, with Mat 111 and Mat 9 used for this Shed bottling.

Half the fruit fermented in small open-top fermenters while the other half fermented in a plastic egg from Germany. The wine was pressed off skins early to preserve freshness and vibrant, fresh berry flavours, making it ideal as a late-summer, slightly chilled red.

Reviews

“This has been 50% fermented in a 1t open fermenter and 50% on skins in a ceramic egg. A very light, bright crimson. Bright and lifted with red fruits, blood oranges and some rose petal. Light and bright on the palate too, with gently crunchy tannins and good acidity rounding out a pretty and delicious wine I'd serve at around 14 degrees on a warm night with grilled lamb cutlets. Or anything really.”
