Germain’s small production of Chassagne Rouge hails from a small, clay-rich parcel in Les Battaudes, planted in 1951. This site is just below the Abbaye de Morgeot on the Chassagne/Remigny border. Only a small proportion of whole bunches were included, and the wine was raised with only a dash of new oak this year. The 2002 is fabulous and the best example we have tasted: ripe yet with lovely freshness and drive, it’s superb value in the context of modern Burgundy.
