Germain’s small production of Chassagne Rouge hails from a small, clay-rich parcel in Les Battaudes, planted in 1951. This site is just below the Abbaye de Morgeot on the Chassagne/Remigny border. Only a small proportion of whole bunches were included, and the wine was raised with only a dash of new oak this year. The 2002 is fabulous and the best example we have tasted: ripe yet with lovely freshness and drive, it’s superb value in the context of modern Burgundy.

Reviews

“The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge is a fleshy, giving, medium to full-bodied wine bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, smoke and potpourri.”
89-90 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“Quite a dense purple. The bouquet speaks of dark plums as well as red berries, with a suggestion of a saline note. Quite a plump dark fruit up front, then some typical Chassagne tannins behind, but with good energy. A wine that should stand up well in bottle.”
88-91 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
