Region, Country Gevrey-Chambertin, France
Bottle Size 750ml

Arnoux-Lachaux first produced this Grand Cru in 2007. It originates from the purchase of a 0.53-hectare parcel of 58-year-old vines that borders the Clos de la Roche. This is the highest, coolest part of the Grand Cru, with a section of the vines surrounded by woods on three sides.

The parcel is ploughed by horse and produces simply outstanding Grand Cru Burgundy, each and every year. Crafted from yields of just 18 hl/ha (Charles pruned the vines severely after the 2017 frost) and fermented with 100% whole bunches and 25% new oak, it’s a wine of majestic scale. Mouth-coating and deep, it is simply a triumph—as the notes below make clear.

Reviews

“Revisited after a year in bottle, Lachaux's 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru lives up to my glowing review, mingling aromas of wild berries, oriental spices and orange peel with hints of coniferous forest floor, violets and peonies. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's immensely concentrated, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a long, penetrating finish. This is well worth a special effort to seek out.”
96 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
“Dense rich purple, wonderful concentrated fruit with a little bit of spice. Wonderful weight through the middle, then a bit gentler behind, with a lovely long sweet dark fruit finish.” 95-98 points
Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
“The 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru was cropped at just 18hl/ha due to the way Charles Lachaux cane-pruned the vines after the hail-damaged 2017 vintage. The broody nose reveals hints of dark chocolate infusing the brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit. Structured and foursquare, conservative in some ways, with a strong marine influence developing toward the fresh finish. It will need several years in bottle, but there is good potential here.” 93-95 points
