This quintessential Georgian grape, may be on its way to becoming an Lethbridge classic if the current release is any indication. Sourced from Ricca Terra Farms, where grower Ashley Ratcliff champions alternative varieties and sustainable viticulture, the fruit was entrusted to winemaker Vassily. Born in Crimea, a land steeped in millennia of winemaking, Vassily now brings his heritage and experience to Lethbridge.
The grapes were hand-picked, foot-stomped and fermented in 800L Tuscan terracotta amphorae. It matured in those same vessels with a healthy portion of skins in a nod to Georgian tradition. After aging, the wine was gently pressed, settled and bottled in December 2022.
Intensely coloured and textural, the nose shows wild red and blue berries, black forest cake, dark chocolate, and savoury cured meats. The palate is generous and layered, with violets, potpourri, tomato leaf, earthy forest floor, wild berries, and mushrooms. A vibrant finish carries exceptional length and freshness.
