Organic. This wonderful value is an assemblage from several of the Bret brothers’ parcels based in Mâcon-Fuissé and Chaintré, and also from Viré-Clessé La Verchère, Saint-Véran En Combe and Pouilly-Fuissé En Carementrant. Some excellent terroirs and the vines average almost 50 years of age. In addition, the last 50 litres of each of La Soufrandière’s premium wines below (biodynamic and unfiltered) are blended into this Mâcon-Villages.

This 2020 was raised half in tank and half in older barrels for 11 months before bottling. It may only be the starting wine, but the level here sets quite the marker! Expect a silky and pure white Burgundy with mouth-watering salinity and wonderful tension on the finish.

Reviews

“From a bunch of different little plots comes this organic white Burgundy. Distinct in its style, and very much in the vein of those I prefer drinking. One look at the glass and that little cloudy apple juice haze has me more interested. Visual cues aside, Bret Brothers is an excellent project focussed on revitalising a family domaine and careful selection of organic fruit to produce their expanding range. Value here too, for now… Delicious white Burgundy of hazy texture, light creaminess, almond and cashew savouriness with green apple freshness in tow. Licks of ginger-lemon tea through it all, a touch of wet fern herbal lift. It feels smooth and rolls exceptionally long, indeed, there’s a distinct sense of pedigree and quiet complexity here, somewhat beyond expectation of the regional standard. Wonderful stuff. Count me in.”
