Released in 2016, this is the first sign of a Shiraz under the 1314 a.d. The fruit for this wine was predominantly culled from the Winery Block (planted in the early 1990s) though also takes in a portion of declassified fruit from the single-parcel Range and De la Roche vineyards. Fermented naturally with 60% whole bunches, and matured in one-third new French oak hogsheads (predominately Remond in Ladoix-Serrigny). Racked at 12 months then returned to older puncheons for another eight months of maturation. No fining and minimal filtration.

Reviews

"No matter how difficult the vintage (and 2011 was a shocker for many), there will always be careful winemakers who produce good wine. Bannockburn is careful: one of my favourite ever pinots was a Bannockburn from the very challenging 1989 vintage. So, yes, while this shiraz does have the hallmarks of the year - peppery spice, undergrowthy aromatics - there's density and structure too, which bodes well for it ageing into a complex and rewarding wine."
