This wine has always offered stunning value. The 2019 is true to form—and then some. It’s a layered and complex old-vine red Burgundy that is both delicious now and equally age-worthy. It hails from a single 0.94-hectare parcel of 50-plus-year-old Pinot Noir vines grown on the red clays of Les Grandes Terres (on the Santenay side of Chassagne). The clay-rich soil type here has long produced some of the finest and silkiest reds of the village. The 2019 was fermented with 30% whole bunches bringing perfume and some extra, fine tannins. In an age of skyrocketing prices, it’s wonderful to still find such values from the Côte d’Or.

Reviews

“One third whole bunch vinification. Rich mid purple, very clean fine raspberry and strawberry fruit, really well balanced, lovely suave and sensual finish. I am always sorry that red Chassagne comes as an afterthought to some great whites, when it is a proper source of interesting wine in its own right.”
86-88 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy
