This comes from two parcels of old vines that total 35 ares (0.35 of a hectare). The vines are 60 years old and are mostly rooted in the terres blanches soils at the heart of the vineyard, with a smaller millerandée parcel closer to the village. Mortet has replanted 600 vines and this, coupled with his low yields, means that he has only three (Cavin Aphrodite) barrels to sell each year.

Reviews

“The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums and pomegranate, mingled with hints of peonies, warm spices, orange rind and coniferous forest floor. Full-bodied, ample and perfumed, it's supple and enveloping, with a fleshy core of fruit, melting tannins and a long, saline, rose-inflected finish.” 96 points, “The 2019 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of raspberries, plums and pomegranate, mingled with hints of peonies, warm spices, orange rind and coniferous forest floor. “The richest purple colour to date, brilliantly sensual, ripe but picked at the perfect moment. Two thirds whole bunch vinification adds a little peppery touch. The Bonnes-Mares is more opulent than the stricter Mazis-Chambertin, with flourishing deep ripe fruit to finish. I would not want it to be riper.”
