The 2022 vintage is the 23rd consecutive bottling of Braemore Semillon under the Thomas Wines label. The Braemore Vineyard, planted in 1969, is situated on the sandy alluvial flats of Hermitage Road, Pokolbin. Once an ancient sea floor, the deep, sandy loam soils are free-draining, allowing deep root penetration which is perfect for Semillon. The vineyard is universally considered to produce some of the finest examples of classic Hunter Valley Semillon and is particularly famed for producing wines of remarkable longevity.
The various blocks within the Braemore vineyard were hand-picked over the first two weeks of February. Each batch was meticulously hand-sorted to ensure only the very best fruit went through for whole-bunch pressing (minimising phenolic extraction). After fermentation the wine spent five weeks on lees prior to bottling.
