Weinbach Cuvee Theo Riesling 2009
Cuvee Theo Riesling comes exclusively from the Weinbach fiefdom of Clos de Capuchins. We loved the 2008 which was as tight and long as a pair of Tex Perkins jeans. As lovely as that wine was (and most likely it's even better today) the 2009 strikes a power chord - like The Who's Pete Townsend's windmill motion. The wine is zippy, zesty, mineral-driven yet also unctuous. Packed with writhing honey-flecked fruit (like crunchy pear, ripe limes, etc) there is also an explosive freshness as if a slice of fresh lemon has been steeped in the glass. Cuvee Theo, named after Madame Colette Faller's late husband, is a unique Riesling which reviewers say is .... "A delicate, mineral-driven Riesling, offering a smoky baseline that mixes with subtle flavors of patisserie apple and pear, pink grapefruit, white peach and hot stone. Well-meshed, with a clean, zesty finish. Drink now through 2020". 90 points, Wine Spectator.
