Weinbach Cuvee St Catherine Riesling 2009
Glass Seal. Cuvée St Catherine was named after Colette's beautiful, aristocratic daughter Catherine and as St Catherine's Day falls on 25th November she thought it would be interesting to harvest a small-batch of Riesling on or around that day every year. The wine has gone on to become Weinbach's most powerful dry Riesling. It comes from very old vines, lower down in the Schlossberg where the soils are richer and deeper. Accordingly its register of flavours are deeper, spicier and its body more shapely, though still with freshness and length. The '09 is offer juicy, musk and dough notes, as well as ripe orchard fruit. The palate is textured and deep yet the characteristic citrus cut of Weinbach 2009 keeps it all clear and delineated. A wonderful wine.
"This well-cut white shows lots of anise and hot stone notes, accenting flavors of ripe pear, candied orange peel and dried apricot, with citrusy acidity. A hint of tarragon lingers on the finish. Drink now through 2016." 90 points, Wine Spectator.
